Network Operation Center (NOC) is a centralized place housing network switching equipment and management systems and may also housing storage devices. It is also a monitoring center equipped with hardware and software tools and managed by dedicated support engineers.
An NOC typically provides the following services and capabilities:
- Housing network switching, routing equipment.
- Housing servers and data storage equipment.
- Monitoring all backbone links and network devices.
- Ensuring continuous operation of servers and services.
- Providing quality support for customers internal or external.
- Troubleshooting of all network and system related problems
A large enterprise typically has its own Network Operation Center, which support the whole or part of the enterprise. Now there are commercially operated Network Operation Centers to provide services to other companies.
