Packet Analyzer can monitor and analyze the data transmitted in intranet and/or between intranet and extranet, or even over VALN. To get all expected data, it is recommended to install the program on the central hub/switch. The following are some common installation layouts. *Our product may be installed on central hub/switch or in subnet or network segment. If you can not get the expected data with the following solutions, please contact help@javvin.com for more suggestion.
Layout A: LAN through proxy/NAT server |

Layout A: LAN through proxy/NAT server |

Javvin Packet Analyzer can be installed on the proxy/NAT server (Windows platform required). It will be bale to monitor the entire inbound and outbound network data transmitted through the proxy/NAT server. Generally, the switch in this layout is a two-level switch. If it has the port mirroring function, please refer to Layout C. Layout B: LAN connected with Hub |
Layout B: LAN connected with Hub |
In this layout, Javvin Packet Analyzer can be installed on any host in LAN, and will monitor the entire network data transmitted through the Hub, including the communication between any two hosts in LAN. Layout C: LAN connected with Management Switch/Port Mirroring |
Layout C: LAN connected with Management Switch/Port Mirroring |
Packet Analyzer should be installed on the host/server connected with the switch’s port mirrored. Port mirroring configuration: 1. Mirror the port of way out to the management port (port mirroring), in this way the entire data transmitted into/out of LAN can be monitored. 2. Mirror all the ports of way out to the management port (port mirroring), in this way not only the entire data transmitted into/out of LAN, but also the communication among hosts in LAN can be monitored. (Recommend) Layout D: LAN connected with Unmanagement Switch |
Layout D: LAN connected with Unmanagement Switch |
In this layout, each port of the switch can only receive the data transmitted to it; therefore it is required to add a hub between the switch and router (or firewall, ADSL, etc.), and install Packet Analyzer on any host connected with the hub. In this way, the entire network data transmitted into/out of LAN can be monitored. Note: Commonly management switches have the function of port mirroring; however, the port mirroring configuration of one brand’s switch may differ from others, please refer to the documentation that comes with your switch for information on availability of this feature and configuration instructions. |
