NxtComm08: Green, Mobility, Broadband and Multimedia Service

In the NxtComm08 ended on June 19, the key words are green, mobility, broadband and multimedia services.

Green: Vendors are building energy saving into every device and service providers are taking energy consumption in their business into matrix.

Mobility: Most innovations are still in this category. WiMax will be deployed in a big way in the US and other parts of the world.

Broadband: Services providers are continuing their investment to push fiber into last mile

4G Mobile Wireless Technologies: A Status Check

4G describes the technologies beyond 3G mobile wireless.

The big time for WiMAX is coming

With a new wave of deployment of WiMAX infrastractures worldwide, we can see that the big time for WiMAX is coming, for real. Most announced deployment of WiMAX projects are in Asia such as Taiwan and India, the so called green fields, where the latest technologies are welcome.

    Quadruple Play is on Horizon

While so called the triple play has just started its service to end users, the telecom industry is introducing another new concept: Quadruple Play. It is one step further based on the triple play.  Quadruple Play combines the services of fixed telephony, mobile telephony, internet services, and television/video services (IPTV). It is served using a converged broadband network with or without wire.

    Triple Play is in Service

Triple play may refer to two different things depends on who are the service providers.
For traditional telecom service providers, Triple play is the fusion of the services of fixed telephony, mobile telephony and fixed-line internet services: the products started being linked, cross- and up-sold and serviced together.  Triple play is based on the integrated and converged fixed and mobile networks.

Fixed Mobile Convergence: A Clear Trend

A clear trend is emerging in the form of fixed and mobile telephony convergence (FMC). The aim is to provide both services with a single phone, which could switch between networks ad hoc. Several industry standardization activities have been completed in this area such as the Voice call continuity (VCC) specifications defined by the 3GPP.

    NXTcomm has replaced SUPERCOMM

TIA and USTelecom, the two organizations that owned and produced SUPERCOMM for 18 years, have joined forces again to produce NXTcomm, which replaces SUPERCOMM as the one event delivering the entire ecosystem of network-enabled voice, video, and data.

NXTcomm08 will be held June 16 – 19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, together with  Communications Goes Green at NXTcomm08.

Mobile 2.0: It is not “Yet Another Pointless Meme”

Another hot talking point in the wireless industry: Mobile 2.0. Obviously, the phrase was borrowed from the concept of “Web 2.0”, in which the social networking is changing the behavior of the Internet users.  Is this “Yet Another Pointless Meme” (YAPM)? Actually the phrase Mobile 2.0 really seems to capture an important trend:  the convergence of mobile devices and web services creating an entirely new dynamic.

    Yagi Antenna

    Description

Yagi-Uda antennas include one or more director elements, which, by virtue of their being arranged at approximately a quarter-wavelength mutual spacing and being progressively slightly shorter than a half wavelength, direct signals of increasingly higher frequencies onto the active dipole.

3G Mobile Technologies and Roll Out

    Description

3G stands for the third generation of wireless communication technology. It refers to pending improvements in wireless data and voice communications through any of a variety of proposed standards. The immediate goal is to raise transmission speeds to 2Mbit/sec.
