Search 2.0: Vertical Search for IT?

Vertical search becomes a hot subject, after years of favor of general purpose search engines.

General search engine such as Google, Yahoo, Baidu etc. is a great tool for their powerful and very broad search capabilities. However, when people are looking for a particular subject , especially studying a professional subject, the general search engines can not return accurate and latest contents. The idea of vertical search is for addressing this short-coming in the general purpose search engines.

Over the past couple of years, actually,  there are quite a few vertical search engines emerging. Some are focusing on a particular type of media (such as video, picture search); some are focusing on a specific geo area (local search); some are focusing  on a particular function (such as jobs, or products), some may focus on particular vertical industry.

For media type and geo type of searches, the large search engines such as Google and Yahoo are working on them, though there are some start-ups. There are more star-ups working on the function and industry focused verticals.

I do not see any vertical search engines for our concerned industries yet (IT, Computing, Networking and Telecom). If any viewers know something about it, please share with the community.
